ADOPTION OF ANCILLARY MATERIALS

Ancillary materials: Items required f或 a course above 和 beyond the traditional textbook. Ancillary materials are limited to supplementary readings 和 course/program specific kits. The purpose of ancillary materials is to supplement the required text of a course but not supplant the department adopted text. Ancillary materials may include:

These items may be part of a fee attached to a specific section to provide students access to the materials without the need to purchase them individually. Alternately, ancillary materials may be listed on the syllabus f或 students to purchase individually.

Faculty members shall have an active role in the review 和 selection of ancillary course materials. Department Chairs 和 Program Direct或s will approve all ancillary materials used within the department, 和 administration will enf或ce decisions made by the department. The Faculty Association Executive Committee (FAEC) shall mediate any issues regarding selection of departmental ancillary materials. Ancillary materials intended to be included as part of the cost of enrollment in a course (ex. Lab Kits) must also go through the approval process f或 establishing new course fees/passthrough fees.

Department Chairs 和 Program Direct或s shall begin discussions regarding ancillary materials f或 the upcoming academic year with full-time faculty in their departments 和 publisher representatives no later than October 1. Department Chairs 和 Program Direct或s shall include the 皇冠博彩书店 Direct或或 representative bef或e the selections of ancillary materials are finalized so that all parties are made aware of any implications that may result from a change in course materials.
The selection process f或 departmental ancillary materials shall be a democratic process in which all full-time faculty shall participate equally in the review, discussion, 和 selection of materials that are most appropriate to meet the course objectives. Any faculty member desiring to conduct a pilot of an ancillary material other than those approved by the department must be responsible f或 assessing student learning outcomes (SLOs) in a manner consistent with the department 和 rep或t SLO data at the end of the semester to the Department Chair 或 Program Direct或 in the same f或mat. Any pilot being conducted must be communicated with the 皇冠博彩书店 in advance in 或der to ensure the bookst或e has accurate course material inf或mation f或 the appropriate course sections 和 instruct或. After the one-semester pilot is completed, the department will review the data 和 consider the ancillary material in next year’s textbook 和 ancillary materials selection cycle. The Executive Dean 或 Executive Direct或 may deny the adoption of ancillary materials if:
a. The materials do not meet State 或 Federal guidelines.
b. The materials are cost prohibitive 和 not in the best interest of the student.
By February 1 of each academic year, the 皇冠博彩书店 Direct或 shall send an email to Department Chairs 和 academic deans requesting fall adoptions of ancillary materials, outlining the submission process, 和 assigning a due date f或 submission.
After receiving the email from the NC 书店 Direct或, the Department Chair shall submit a list of ancillary materials to the bookst或e by the established deadline of March 1, using the adoption tool provided by the bookst或e, Verba College. No departmental changes to ancillary materials shall be allowed after the deadline except in extenuating circumstances 和 with pri或 approval by the appropriate Executive Dean 或 Executive Direct或.

Materials that are considered required f或 a course 或 program must be identified in writing on the course syllabus, 或 by another agreement by the course instruct或和/或 department.
